sAlexander is on a New Server!
written by Spencer Alexander on August 14, 2008 at 09:03PM in Programming / Web Design
Exciting news for all of the followers of sAlexander… I’ve officially moved to a new server! Now you won’t have to wait as long for the exiting blog posts and pictures to load from my site. You might be asking yourself, “How much of an improvement am I really getting? I mean… people brag about changes all the time, but I rarely notice the difference.” Alright, I’ll tell you… the website now loads over 10 times faster! I did a quick test on the Website Speet Tester, and I clocked times for both my old server and new server. I ran 4-5 tests to try and get a good average (I should have saved the bunch of them). The minimum speed increase I found was 9x faster, and the max was exactly 19x faster, averaging around 15x for five tests. In the image below, my new server is on top, while my old server is on the bottom.

I hope that everyone out there enjoys the new speed… and although I’m sad to be leaving behind Site5, I’m very excited to be a new member of SliceHost.

Woah… that’s a lotta robots! Good thing you fend them off with your robot detector!
I enjoy a good Robot joke just as much as the next person, and I really do want to keep hearing them. But I also want to share my reason for double checking the humans on my site.
Since June 19th (my first comment on sAlexander!), I have recieved 53 comments. That’s approximatly 1 comment per day (It’s been 57 days). Since August 10th, I’ve recieved 109 comments from robots. That’s approximatly 21 robot comments per day.
Although I’m sure some would like to view all the comments regarding 100 great places to purchase Viagra, I’ve decided that my website won’t be one of those places.
Faster server — woot! Three nerd points to you, good sir.
